Patrice Vergriete, Mayor of Dunkirk: "The political management of the migrant crisis is absurd, ineffective and terribly cruel"

The elected official, a former minister under Elisabeth Borne and Gabriel Attal, condemns France's current approach to migrants attempting to cross to the United Kingdom.

Patrice Vergriete was Minister for Housing between July 2023 and January 2024 under the Borne government, then Minister for Transport between February and September 2024 under the Attal government. In November 2024, he resumed his role as Mayor of Dunkirk (Nord), which he had held for ten years before joining the government. His town is the starting point for many migrant crossings , aboard "small boats" to reach the English coast. Since the beginning of the year, more than 20,000 people have reached the United Kingdom, fifteen have died in the Channel.
